I'd like to point out that when planning an independent study, you should always double the expected time for approval to accommodate scheduling, red tape, and logistic snafus. It looks like the trip is finally a go!
About Barcelona in August: there seems to be a common consensus that 10% of the city closes down during the last two weeks of August in order for Barcelonians to take their own vacations. As a tourist this is not a problem-- apparently all the tourist areas stay open year-round regardless of the tour schedule, it's the off-the-beaten-path shops and cafes that close. Still, the Gracia barrio is host to Barcelona's largest Festival Major that takes place from Aug 15 to 22. More details to come!
The focus of my trip will be on ten projects in/around the Barcelona metropolitan area, as well as an urban study of the city prior to leaving. Here's the current list, subject to change:
Igualada Cemetery, Igualada Spain (60 minutes driving outside the city)
Santa Catalina Market
Barcelona Pavilion
Northeast and Southeast Coastal Parks
Parc Guell
Sagrada Familia
Torre Agbar (Tower Agbar)
L'auditori de Musica de Barcelona (Concert Building)
Museu d'Art Contemporani (Museum of Contemporary Art)
More details to come!
